28 Common Marketing Problems: Good News You're Not Alone

I'm sure there are more, but I put together a list today of common marketing
problems people ask us to help them solve. Candidly speaking, these things are generally symptoms of a bigger problem (hint: no brand or marketing strategy) - but things that plague many a 'business-owner-turned-marketer'.

worried man

  1. I am spending money on marketing, I just have no idea what is working and what isn’t
  2. I have an HTML email program, but I rarely use it
  3. I know I should blog, but I don’t
  4. I do some stuff here and there, but have a hard time being consistent with my marketing
  5. We have a newsletter, but I’m not sure what it does for me
  6. My website doesn’t generate good quality leads for my organization
  7. I’m not sure if anyone knows my website exists
  8. I don’t like how my website represents my company
  9. I run out of things to say when it comes to newsletters and generating content
  10. I have a marketing packet I use as a leave-behind, but I don’t know if it helps
  11. I am not getting enough high-quality leads
  12. I’ve heard about SEO, PPC, SERP’s, and Google Analytics; I’m just not sure what it all is and if I should be using it
  13. I sometimes have a hard time figuring out what I should be doing for marketing
  14. I am doing a bunch of stuff, but I don’t know if it’s doing anything for me
  15. We sometimes generate leads that no one follows up on
  16. We have prospects that we’ve talked to in the past, but have no way of staying in front of them with our brand and product/ service offering
  17. I’m not sure marketing will even work for my company
  18. My sales and marketing strategies are not aligned with one another
  19. My sales guys (gals) just want to make their own marketing materials
  20. We haven’t updated our website in a long time.
  21. I’m unclear about how to communicate what truly differentiates my company
  22. I’m uncertain of what my customers would say if asked to articulate what makes my company different
  23. My marketing materials all look different. We reinvent ourselves every time we make something new.
  24. Every time I go to do marketing, I have to work too hard to figure out what to do – and end up doing nothing
  25. My sales team keeps asking for more marketing support, but don’t know how to use what they have.
  26. Even if we had good marketing materials, all of our prospect and customer contact information is in about 100 different places.
  27. Marketing thinks they provide leads, but they aren’t ready to buy when called. They rarely turn in to anything.
  28. How much should I be spending on marketing?
Do you get stuck with any of these things? Good news: you're not alone, and we can help! (insert shameless self-promotion here). Take a look at my list - and let me know if you have others to add!
